Caspian Custom .45 airsoft

The Caspian airsoft pistol, which is produced with the complete cooperation and permission of the logo owner, is precision cast and a well-made, accurate copy of the Colt M1911A1 pistol (as customized by Caspian). It's powerful, reasonably accurate and has a realistic recoil.

A first look at the gun
The gun is powered with green gas, which is inserted through a gas inlet port in the bottom. You pump it in by inverting the magazine and holding the gas bottle on top of it.

One of the great attractions to this airsoft gun, beside the look and feel, is how it acts when shot. It's a blowback that functions the same as the firearm but with far less noise and recoil. Because of the light weight of the synthetic slide, the recoil is less than that of a CO2 Walther PPK/S, but the gun still blows the slide nearly all the way back with every shot.

The grip safety, ambidextrous safety and other controls are identical to an upscale combat or race gun. The two-stage trigger has an extremely short first stage and a reasonably crisp second stage, breaking between 36 and 40 oz. Actually, I am surprised the manufacturer can get synthetic parts to engage as precisely as these do!

The profiled hammer spur locks back at the extreme end of its travel, and the top of the full beavertail grip safety has been relieved to accept it. Metal parts would be fitted and finished no better, and the lockwork would probably also be no better. You have to smile at such fine attention to detail in what many people might consider a toy or replica gun.

The pistol weighs 28 oz. with an empty 6-oz. magazine installed. It's light for a .45, but not unbelievable. When you add up the list of options they've incorporated into the gun, it represents a real value.

Ammunition
Airsoft guns use a 6mm ball. Let's look at three different types of ammo - standard blue plastic, precision white plastic and aluminum. Let's get the metal ball out of the way first.

Aluminum balls weigh 0.30 grams, or about 50% to three times more than plastic balls. That weight means power, of course, and power is the last thing anyone wants in an airsoft gun.

The most common ammo seems to be the lightweight blue plastic ball. It weighs a uniform 0.12 grams, and the surface is semi-smooth. If you want the highest reading on the chrono, this stuff will give it.

The white plastic ball is packaged as a precision round for airsoft guns. Examination under a 12-power loupe reveals a surface that appears to have been polished. It has only half the number of imperfections as the blue ball, and the 0.20-gram weight means it goes a little slower, too.

Look for something fun to shoot. I like 35mm film containers at 20 feet to 35 feet. Lightweight spinners are fun, as are plastic figures like army men. Use your imagination!

Is it accurate? And how!
The Caspian .45 is both accurate and fast!
However, the question of accuracy has to be answered in context. You can't compare a smoothbore gun shooting plastic balls to a world-class target pistol!

Nevertheless, for an airsoft gun right out of the box, the Caspian represents a remarkable value in accuracy and power. I was impressed when I first tested it and continue to be impressed after having tested many other airguns from some of the top manufacturers!
